Pelé is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who is widely considered one of the greatest players of all time. Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações, Brazil, Pelé began playing football at a young age and was quickly recognized for his exceptional skills.

Pelé's professional career began in 1956 when he signed with Santos FC, a Brazilian club. He quickly made a name for himself, scoring an impressive number of goals and helping lead the team to numerous victories. In 1958, at the age of 17, Pelé became the youngest player to participate in a World Cup. He scored six goals in the tournament, including two in the final against Sweden, and helped lead Brazil to their first World Cup victory.


Pelé's success at the World Cup propelled him to international fame, and he became one of the most recognizable and influential figures in the world of football. He continued to play for Santos FC, leading the team to numerous victories in the Brazilian league and in international competitions. In 1962, he helped lead Brazil to their second World Cup victory, scoring two goals in the final against Czechoslovakia.

Throughout his career, Pelé played in a total of four World Cups and scored a total of 77 goals for Brazil, making him the country's all-time leading goalscorer. He also scored over 1,000 goals in his professional career, a feat that has yet to be matched by any other player.


In addition to his impressive goalscoring record, Pelé is also known for his exceptional technical skills and his ability to read the game. He was a versatile player who could play in any position on the pitch, and his creativity and vision made him a valuable asset to any team.


After retiring from professional football in 1977, Pelé continued to be involved in the sport as a coach and an ambassador. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the game, including the FIFA Order of Merit and the Brazilian Order of Merit. In 1999, he was named one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century by Time magazine, and in 2004 he was inducted into the Brazilian Football Museum Hall of Fame.


Pelé's career and achievements have made him a true legend of the sport, and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
