Last summer, Manchester United had the option of choosing between Antony and Cody Gakpo, two of the Eredivisie's brightest stars.

They paid £86 million for the Brazilian. Liverpool will spend less than half that amount on Gakpo in December.

Does this imply that the Brazilian is superior? Or could it be Liverpool's negotiating skills, or something else? We offer solutions.

Liverpool are business savvy: with the exception of Darwin Nunez, the Reds have a reputation for not overpaying for players. They usually get the best deal. The Reds paid £27 million for Thiago, £44 million for Fabinho, and only £37 million for Luis Diaz.

PSV are simply bad at business: the fact that the deal for Gakpo, the club's second record sale, only netted £37 million speaks volumes about PSV's finances. Hirving Lozano joined Napoli in 2019 for slightly more than £40 million, while Memphis Depay, Steven Bergwijn, and others left for significantly less.

Antony has a unique profile: While Gakpo and Antony both play on the flanks, Antony's type is uncommon. He's a left-footed right winger who enjoys hugging the wings. A right-footed left winger like Gakpo, on the other hand, is not uncommon. He has a lot in common with Rashford, Sancho, and Elanga.

Gakpo may not be that good: Gakpo appeared to be the one pushing for a move to the Premier League. He once openly expressed his desire to join United. If he was that good, top clubs would be all over him. His stats in the Eredivisie could be deceptive. Depay, for example, excelled in the Netherlands but struggled in the Premier League.

Celebrations At Stamford Bridge As Star Player Completes Medical

Chelsea Football Club has begun making new signings with less than a week until the start of the January transfer window in 2023. According to the most recent reports, the club has already agreed on personal terms with David Datro Fofana, who has joined from Norwegian giants Molde on a long-term contract for a fee of €12 million.

Fofana is a 20-year-old professional footballer from Ouragahio, Ivory Coast.

In 2019, he made his senior career debut with Ivorian club AFAD before joining Molde two years later.

He scored 15 goals in 42 appearances for Molde, winning the Eliteserian and Norwegian Cup titles both in 2022.

Fofana has made three appearances for Ivory Coast at the national team level.

Do you believe David Datro Fofana has what it takes to replace fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba, a key player for Chelsea over the last decade?
