QATAR 2022 WORLD CUP BREAKS RECORD OVER THE NUMBER OF GOALS SCORED IN THE TOURNAMENT EDITION

This year's Qatar 2022 World Cup was glamorous and entertaining, with numerous surprises throughout the tournament.



From big European giants like Spain, Portugal, and Germany being eliminated at unexpected stages to African countries like Cameroon and Morocco making history in the tournament.

These include one of the most historic finals ever witnessed in football, with Argentina narrowly defeating a resurrected France side led by Kylian Mbappe.


However, this World Cup edition has set a new record for the most goals scored, surpassing both the France 1998 and Brazil 2014 editions.



Qatar 2022 saw 172 goals scored, compared to 171 goals scored in both the France 1998 and Brazil 1994 editions of the tournament.In previous years, the tournaments with the fewest goals scored were USA 1994 and South Africa 2010, with 141 and 143 goals scored, respectively.

Paris Saint-Germain boss confirms date of Lionel Messi return

Lionel Messi will return to Paris Saint-Germain in early January after competing in the 2022 World Cup, according to PSG president Christophe Galtier.


Messi was a key figure in Argentina's recent international triumph, scoring seven goals and registering three assists in seven appearances.


The 35-year-old scored twice in the final against France, and he also scored in the shootout, as Argentina won the trophy after defeating the European side on penalties.Players from the competition's final have begun to return to their clubs, but Galtier has revealed that Messi will miss the team's next two matches.


PSG will return to Ligue 1 action on December 28 against Strasbourg before facing Lens on January 1, but the Argentine will be absent from both games.


The manager of Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed Lionel Messi's return date.

"Leo [Messi] had a big World Cup as well," Galtier told reporters.


"We decided that he would cut until January 1 due to his victory and the celebrations in Argentina. He'll be back with us on the 2nd or 3rd to resume competition."Messi's next appearance for PSG could be against Chateauroux in the Coupe de France on January 6, though it appears more likely that he will return on January 11 against Angers.



During the 2022-23 season, the former Barcelona forward has been in excellent form for the French champions, scoring 12 goals and registering 14 assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.


Messi has seven goals and ten assists in 13 Ligue 1 appearances this season, while he has four goals and four assists in five Champions League group stage appearances.
