An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to one of the five suspects in the December 9 robbery of a Chinese national at Caprice in Accra.

Pregnant Emmanuella Chinwetalu was given bail in the amount of $100,000 with four sureties who must live in the area.

In anticipation of a more thorough investigation, four of the accused have been remanded into legal custody.

They are Prince Anthony Chiobi, Caleb (Godfred Chukubuka), Izichuku Igwenagu, Martin Ahamafula, and Izichuku Igwenagu, a currently serving prisoner.

Yaw John Darko Ikenna, the sixth defendant, was still being pursued by the police, according to the prosecution, which was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah.

"We need more time to talk to the sixth accused individual and several other suspects who we think were involved in the crime, too.

"The prosecution is coordinating with INTERPOL in Nigeria to have the sixth accused individual detained and transported to Ghana so they can stand trial.

The prosecution stated, "Therefore, we are pleading with the court to prolong the accused people' remand in police custody so that we may obtain the sixth accused who is the kingpin or head of this legendary heist organisation."

Additionally, ASP Haligah requested that the court reject the accusers' plea. The accused's attorneys, Andy Vortia and Edward Nana Asare, pleaded with the court to grant bail to the accused, but the court refused.

It has been postponed until January 9, 2023.

The five defendants are accused of conspiring to commit robbery and robbery, among other crimes.

The prosecution's argument was that on December 9, 2022, a Chinese woman had been attacked, shot, and robbed of some items in Caprice, an Accra suburb, by a group of armed men on motorcycles.

According to the report, the Regional Police sent officers to the area after receiving the information to determine the act and conduct an investigation.

According to the prosecution, the victim told the police that the thieves took the 370,000 she had previously cashed at the Standard Chartered Bank branch at West Hills Mall on the day of the event.

According to the report, the woman said that she also possessed two stolen iPhones (an iPhone 11 with shopping mode and an iPhone 8 Plus), as well as cash totaling $8,000 and 40,000.

The accused in front of this honourable court and others were involved in the crime, according to the prosecution, and it was discovered that they were in a hideaway in Buduburam.
