I respect Spurs' transfer policy | 'Signing someone like Casemiro not club's vision'

Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte has told Sky Sports News he "respects" the club's transfer policy of signing younger players, rather than experienced stars such as Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

Asked whether he was frustrated at not being able to sign more experienced players, Conte replied in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News: “Honestly, I’m not frustrated because when you arrive in a new club to work you have to stay to understand the vision.

"When you understand the vision then you have to respect [it] because you’ve signed a contract, then try to help the club improve following this vision.

"I can appreciate the fans' impatience because they want to hold championship rings.

"I comprehend everything and everyone, but I also believe that we need to be patient, give ourselves time, and work to get better in order to apply what I have learned here.

"Avoid making mistakes in the transfer market and be patient with the players you are going to recruit so you can watch them grow.

"Players with experience who have significant successes behind them at age 30 can be signed, like Casemiro.

"But this is not the vision of the club and for this reason we need to continue to work, to have patience.

"I understand everybody, but at the same time this frustration cannot become a problem [but] to become a push for me, for the players, for the club to continue to improve, to develop and reduce the gap with other clubs.

"You need to be aware that there are various ways to obtain a trophy. Important players can be signed if you have a large investment. Young players must be signed, and then you must labor and wait for them to mature, raise their level, and subsequently grow stronger. On the one hand, achievement comes swiftly, but on the other, patience is required.

When asked if Spurs would make acquisitions in January, he responded, "I think the club would go for it if there was an opportunity to strengthen the group.

But you already know the kind of player we can sign: a good player who is also young and developing.
