Man Utd make ‘offer’ for £58m Spain international after ‘last-minute surprise’
According to reports, Manchester United have made an offer to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo.
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window, with reports linking them to a number of players.
Erik ten Hag was granted permission to bring Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to the club in the summer, but there are still rumors that he is looking to strengthen his midfield with additional additions.
Man United's 1-0 win over Wolves moved them into the top four, and Tottenham's loss yesterday means the Red Devils are two points ahead of fifth place with a game in hand. And Ten Hag could build on that by signing RB Leipzig's Olmo in January, according to Spanish publication Nacional, which claims that Manchester United and Bayern Munich have made a 'offer' for the player.
According to the newspaper, a 'last-minute surprise' prevented Barcelona from signing Olmo in the previous winter transfer window, with Xavi'refusing and vetoing the signing because he believed it was excessively expensive'.
With the €65 million (£58 million) deal falling through, other clubs are now able to pursue Olmo in January, with Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, and AC Milan all 'considering presenting a firm offer for him'.And Nacional insists that Olmo has 'offers' from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, with Olmo's former coach Julian Nagelsmann eager to work with him again.
Man United see Olmo as a'really interesting reinforcement,' with the 24-year-old seen as the perfect antidote to the loss of Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Paul Scholes has been particularly impressed by new signings Casemiro and Eriksen this season, with both contributing significantly to United's recent success.
"I just think he's brought great experience to the middle of the pitch, great quality, as I've said before his passing surprises me, his one-touch passing," Scholes told BT Sport (via the Manchester Evening News). If you're in a midfield with [Luka], he'll pass forward a lot."He's been fantastic. I was concerned about his physicality and his legs coming to England; he never appeared to be the fastest, but he's so clever and plays the role brilliantly well. I don't want to compare him to Michael Carrick because he's a Rolls Royce of a player, but he plays the position perfectly."
"He's perfect for Eriksen as well," Scholes added. They can't play the way they want unless they have a player like Casemiro who does everything, including the dirty work.
"These forward players, if you're going to score lots of goals, you need a player like that in your team. In front of him, he has [Bruno] Fernandes and Eriksen, who are only concerned with goals.
