Bernardo Silva has revealed when he would like to leave Manchester City, but says it 'depends' on what happens next summer.
Silva has been a key player for City since joining from Monaco in 2017. Indeed, 106 goal contributions is an impressive total in a team where there is no guarantee of a starting spot.
Pep Guardiola has the luxury of having a plethora of world-class players to choose from. Silva's frequent appearance on the team sheet attests to his ability. However, the midfielder was not always putting in top performances for City.
Indeed, it was reported a few years ago that he was dissatisfied at the Etihad. As a result, he would have been permitted to leave in 2021, as agreed upon by Guardiola.
Barcelona's interest could have resulted in a simple move to La Liga for the Portuguese. However, neither the agreement nor the interest materialized, and he remained in his current position.
Guardiola has made him one of his most used players since then. Indeed, Silva missed only three Premier League games last season as Manchester City won the league for the fourth time in five years. While he is still on Barcelona's radar, it would be surprising if he moved on. He has only missed one game in all competitions for City this season, so he should be content with his role.
Silva concentrated on Manchester City.
A new contract for Silva has been discussed in light of Barcelona's interest. The Portuguese's current contract expires at the end of 2025, but he has the option to renew.
Silva has revealed that his main focus is on City, as he has a big goal he wants to achieve while at the club."I'm very focused on this season, and talking about leaving makes no sense because we're in the middle of the season," he told Record.
"I've been at Manchester City for almost six years, I have a lot of respect for the club, news keeps coming out and people know that there have been talks between me and the club and, at the end of the season, we'll talk again to see what's best for the two sides.
"I'm focused on winning more titles for City. We want to win the league again, and we have a competition that we have never won, which is a great goal, which is the Champions League, so we want to give it another shot."Silva is well aware of his ideal next club.
While his heart is currently with City, Silva has admitted that a return to Benfica, where he began his career, is on his radar, but he wants to do so while he can still perform well.
"I want to go back to Benfica to help, and I have to feel ready," he added.
"Players, primarily in my position and with my characteristics, play at the highest level at least until the age of 36.
"We see players like Xavi and Iniesta who played late. There are many examples of people in these positions, with these characteristics, who have lasted a long time."I'm not sure how long I'll be okay. I'm 28 years old, will be 29 in the summer, and have two years left on my Manchester City contract."
As a result, the expiration of his City contract could signal the end of his City career.
Potential exit terms have been revealed.
Previously, he admitted that he would have liked to return to Benfica within the next few years, so that could be the path he takes, depending on what happens with his contract.
"My contract would expire on March 31. "I won't deny that my goal in recent years, if something good happens elsewhere, has been to move to a new project," he said."If you ask me, what did you think 10 years ago? My goal was to return to Benfica at the age of 32 at the most. What am I thinking today? It all depends on what happens next summer.
