Who Did This To Teachers?
I watched a program on TV3 , Date Rush where men and women look for their partners by taking part in a number of activities.
Now, my worry is, a young man introduced himself as a teacher and then all the ladies were like they wouldn't marry a teacher and the reason was that teachers don't have money. One of the ladies made a particular reference to GES staffs and the host has to intervene by advising them not to stereotype teachers and the young man went further to say he is not a GES staff but a Cambridge carriculum teacher yet still all the ladies ignored him and this 37 year old teacher left without any of the mere dropout girls and nearly jobless dates.
Ironically, a Gaboronese appeared on same program and introduced himself as a seasonal unemployed painter and was able to take one of the dropout girls home as a date.
This development made me felt sad and sorrowful for Ghanaian teachers because if on national television, poor girls looking for dates could have, and declared these perceptions or realities of Ghanaian teachers as being poor, and rather prefer to Date a Gaboronese seasonal unemployed, then, teachers must begin to think.
Teaching is being associated with poverty, a very serious stigma on reasonable humanity. What have teachers Done wrong? It is our kindness, humanity, or how the profession and wicked Politicians exploit our talent to feed the whole society for free or how we treat ourselves. If after spending several cedis and dollars to acquire several University education as a teacher, the only status the society which largely benefit from your suffering almost for Free can only identify with symbols of poverty and suffering, then, Ghanaian teachers must stop their profession because the Free beneficiaries don't value, your contributions, even the most idiots among our society,. Very very bad and how can teachers fight this?
This must be a serious concern to every teacher being it female or male. Very very bad perception or realities.
The moment your peers you grow with whom you are even better educated realize you are a teacher, then you no longer command any respect.
Should this be a curse or a perceptual problem teachers have to confront or politicians have succeeded in rendering teachers nothing less than useless?
This is a very degrading profession. Let no underrate this awkward and dangerous phenomenon
