Many football fans were taken aback when it was revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Following a record-breaking move to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, football fans worldwide questioned whether this was the right move for Cristiano Ronaldo, a man who loved football in Europe, but things appear to be clearer now as the Portuguese may be returning to the Premier League and the Champions League.

According to reports, a clause in Ronaldo's new contract states that if Newcastle secures a ticket to the UEFA Champions League for the 2023/2024 season, which begins next season, the Portuguese will play for Newcastle.

Skysports has revealed:

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr contract includes a clause that allows him to move to Newcastle if they qualify for the Champions League.

Xavi sends Man Utd transfer message after claims Frenkie de Jong wants to join Red Devils

Manchester United have been interested in Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong for some time, but Barcelona manager Xavi is not looking to sell him this month.

Xavi wants Frenkie de Jong to stay at Barcelona.

"I think it's going to be a quiet window for us," Xavi said of January departures at Barcelona.

Manchester United will be disappointed by the news, as they continue to pursue Dutch international Frenkie de Jong. The Red Devils pursued the Dutchman for much of the summer before settling for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro and spending £70 million to secure his signature. De Jong was dissatisfied with United's failure to qualify for the Champions League, but Erik ten Hag, with whom he previously worked at Ajax, has transformed the club back into a top-four contender.

United are now a much more appealing proposition, and unconfirmed reports in Spain suggest De Jong isn't entirely opposed to joining the Red Devils in January.

De Jong has had a turbulent year at Barcelona, with the cash-strapped club seemingly looking to force him out in order to get the highest-paid player off their books.Throughout the ordeal, the 25-year-old has stuck to his guns and still considers Barcelona - who are currently top of LaLiga on joint points with bitter rivals Real Madrid - to be his "dream" destination.

And now, Barcelona manager Xavi has gone even further, ruling out any move this month, telling the press: "I don't want Memphis [Depay] or any other player to leave before the end of the season. I believe it will be a quiet period for us."In contrast, United manager Ten Hag recently hinted that his team will be looking for new players in January, telling the media: "I believe we can always improve the club's organization. So we will always strive for better, and if opportunities arise, we will seize them."

United are primarily looking for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated in November after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan in which he verbally attacked the Old Trafford club.

The Red Devils recently missed out on Cody Gakpo, who chose to join Liverpool over United.
