Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain was greeted as a hero upon his return to the French capital after Argentina won the World Cup, defeating Kylian Mbappe's France in the final.
Lionel Messi was greeted with a guard of honour upon his return to Paris Saint-Germain, but teammate Kylian Mbappe was unable to attend after losing to the Argentine in the World Cup final.

The 2018 World Cup winner was not present for Messi's hero's reception, but his younger brother Ethan was, having recently joined PSG's first-team squad.

"What matters to me is the relationship between the players. Despite the loss, Kylian Mbappe maintained a positive attitude. Of course, he was disappointed, but he handled it with grace. He congratulated Leo Messi, which is a very good thing.
