According to accounts, a football player and his partner were detained at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport with up to 100kg of cocaine in their luggage.
The first division team in Martinique is Aiglon du Lamentin, where 29-year-old Jean-Manuel Nedra plays.
Nedra was detained together with his partner on Sunday after being discovered to be carrying up to 100kg of cocaine in luggage.
According to the local prosecutor's office, as reported by the French newspaper Le Parisien, he was taken into custody pending trial after being brought before an investigating court.
It is rumored that his partner has been freed.
Without knowing the extent of his involvement, his team released the following statement to local media: "We discovered that one of our players was arrested at Roissy for drug smuggling.
"Let us be stronger than ever and united to continue our job of education via sport, to battle this scourge, to guard and warn our young people about the dangers, repercussions, and abuses of this environment."
When he was detained, he is said to have been traveling on personal business.
Midfielder Nedra has played for Martinique on the international stage.
In 2012, he made his abroad French territory debut.

Fans accuse Kepa of 'match fixing' for Man City opener against Chelsea
After a chaotic first half at Stamford Bridge, things quickly picked up, and City scored a goal thanks to a combination of Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez, who had just come on.
Mahrez was set up for a tap-in at the far post after Grealish found space down the left and sent in a teaser of a cross with his left foot.
From a City standpoint, it was a clean play, but the spectators had no idea what Kepa was doing.
The cross didn't have too much pace on it and was in the Spaniard's vicinity and yet he let the ball run. Marc Cucurella went to sleep and Chelsea were punished.
Kepa really didn't cover himself in glory and fans came out with match fixing shouts.
One fan vented: "Investigate kepa for match fixing cause I really can’t get my head around that."
Another fumed: "We just witnessed Kepa match fixing but we’re gonna blame potter after the game aren’t we."
A third commented: "Did Kepa just choose not to claim that? Is he match fixing?"
