WITHOUT ANY DISGUISE, THE VOLKSWAGEN ID.7 HAS ALREADY BEEN OBSERVED.

At CES, Volkswagen displayed the brand-new ID.7, which came after it teased a new electric sedan. The 2024 Volkswagen ID.Aero Concept is heavily influenced by the ID.7, which now has an official name. Although it was an "official" reveal, Volkswagen only displayed a camouflaged model of the vehicle that still conceals a few design details. VW is currently testing the ID.7 with a barely disguised test mule in the snow, even though it is not yet ready to do so.

In the past, our spy photographers saw a prototype in black, but they've just seen one in gray that looks more like a production unit. While the grey car does not completely lack deceptive body cladding, the solid color helps us get a better idea of the ID.7's proportions because the digital camo creates some odd effects with light. This gray car also shows more of the final design than the camo unit that is at CES. Without the wrap, we can tell that the ID.7 is not a conventional sedan but rather a liftback like the Arteon. A hatch can be identified by the large glass in front of the C-pillar and the long glass in the rear.

Based on what we saw at CES, the production headlight and taillight designs are still hidden on this test mule. These lights appear to have been taken from the Jetta in order to conceal the final design. In addition, the final vehicle ought to have a painted, smooth front end as opposed to the Jetta-like grille that can be seen here. Neither the battery nor the electric motors, let alone any details specific to the United States, were disclosed by VW. We anticipate that the ID.7 will come with two motor options: one with rear-wheel drive and the other with all-wheel drive. The former should have 201 horsepower, while the latter should have around 302 horsepower. Based on ID.4, these estimates are purely speculative. On the WLTP cycle, VW claims it wants a range of 434 miles, which should be at least 370 miles on the EPA cycle.

Later this year, an official reveal should take place.
