MARTIN KEOWN SAYS ARSENAL STAR IS ‘SAVING’ THE CLUB A LOT OF MONEY, WORKING ‘TIRELESSLY’
Martin Keown told TalkSPORT (Friday, 11.50AM) that Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is currently saving the Gunners a lot of money by playing up front in place of the injured Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus was injured after returning from the World Cup and is expected to be out until at least March. Nketiah, 23, has stepped up and started the last three League games. He had previously failed to make a league start this season.
Nketiah has two goals in three starts, one against West Ham and the other in a 4-2 victory over Brighton. He's certainly demonstrating why he deserves to replace Jesus when the Brazilian international returns from injury.
Arsenal legend Keown praised Nketiah, who recently signed a new contract with the club.
Keown: Nketiah is saving Arsenal a lot of money.
When it was revealed that Jesus had been injured, Arsenal fans begged the club to sign a striker. The Gunners supporters believed that if they were to maintain their title challenge, they would need a new no.9.
However, it should be noted that, prior to the World Cup, Jesus went six Premier League games without scoring. He has only scored five goals this season. While he has seven assists and contributes to play, he is not particularly prolific.
Nketiah has entered the game with doubts about his ability to lead the line. However, he has scored two goals in his first two League appearances this season.Mikel Arteta does not need to sign a striker as long as Nketiah remains fit. It means the Gunners can go out and spend big on someone else, perhaps Mykhaylo Mudryk.
