Chelsea’s appalling attacking stats under Graham Potter are seriously damning for a top six team

A breakdown of Chelsea's attacking stats since Graham Potter took over as manager in September is already causing concern among fans.

Potter joined the Blues in September after Brighton fired Thomas Tuchel.

Todd Boehly, the club's new owner, was eager to rebuild after spending a record £278 million over the summer.

Tuchel's style was the inspiration for all seven signings, not Potter's. Recent performances have begun to reflect this.

Chelsea is currently tenth in the Premier League table, eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

The 1-0 loss to Manchester City on Thursday night was exacerbated by injuries to Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic.

Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in the summer and has six goals in all competitions. This is where the lack of an attacking threat becomes apparent.

Sky Sports displayed a graphic of Chelsea's stats since Potter walked through the door before kickoff. They do not make for pleasant reading.

They've scored 12 goals since September, which ranks them 14th in the league. Given that three of them came in a 3-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in October, it's not like they've been spread out over multiple games.Given that Potter has only played four Premier League home games, the odds are stacked against him. It's still surprising to see a big-six team rank last in shots and shots on goal.

They've converted 13% of their few shots, ranking them sixth in that category. In theory, however, taking fewer shots increases your conversion rate.

Potter told Sky Sports in November what he expects from his team. "It's always about the players, about putting the players in positions where you think they can have the most influence on the game," he said."Of course, it comes down to how you see the game and how the game goes, but we all know it's football and the scoreline can go against you or things can look a little different."That's always the idea, to keep a consistency in terms of how we're playing and how the team looks depending on the players we have, depending on the capability of the team we're playing.

"Because that's something we've had to juggle for the last five or six weeks, just an incredible amount of games, key injuries to a few players, figuring out who can do what, and it's a bit of a minefield, to put it mildly."

Chelsea have already signed David Datro Fofana and Benoit Badiashile in January, with rumours of moves for Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk circulating.
