Exclusive: ‘Liverpool are watching him’ – Christian Falk makes midfield transfer claim over potential Jude Bellingham alternative
According to Christian Falk, Liverpool is still keeping a close eye on Kouadio 'Manu' Koné.
The 21-year-old, who falls squarely within the club's preferred age range of 20-24, is expected to leave during the next summer window.
Gladbach's Kouadio Koné in action
"It's also a financial issue, but Gladbach knows they'll let Kouadio Koné go in the summer unless there's a way to keep him," the BILD journalist exclusively told CaughtOffside.
"They do not want to sell any of their players. They're in talks with goalkeeper [Yann Sommer], who could join Bayern Munich. Koné has plenty of time."Liverpool are keeping an eye on him, as are Newcastle and PSG.
"Bayern says no, that's my concrete information, they don't want to buy him," says the source. Not this summer, maybe later, but he's gone. Bayern has enough midfielders, so they aren't in the running.
"I think Kone will leave in the summer but none of the links are concrete enough where you can say that he's going to the Premier League or this club or this club. It's a big market, but Gladbach will try to keep him until the summer, at which point he'll leave.According to metrics analyzed by Liverpool.com, the Gladbach midfielder has been mentioned as a possible replacement for the Merseysiders' top priority target this summer, Jude Bellingham (via Empire of the Kop).
The struggle for Liverpool, of course, will be identifying targets they can afford to spend money on alongside Bellingham - assuming they can stump up the required fee (rumored to be in the region of Ł130 million) to sign him.
This task will be made even more difficult if Jürgen Klopp's men fail to qualify for the Champions League, which has to be considered a distinct possibility given their current form.Assuming Falk's €40m estimate is correct, the Reds may be able to meet their midfield transfer quota even without top European football.
"At the moment, there are no offers, so there are no concrete prices, but we discussed Bellingham, Fernández... "I don't think he's in this range, but he's a backup plan for many clubs," the reporter added. "Dortmund may require a player in his position. So, €40 million? But there are no offers, so there is no market."
