The Accra Circuit Court is investigating Prince Tagoe, a former Black Stars player, for fraud. The court granted him GHc100,000 bail with three sureties, one of whom must be a civil servant.
Prince Tagoe was granted bail for fraud.
Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, the judge, told the court that one of the sureties could be a landed property.
The former player has paid GHC129,000.00, which is the equivalent of USD 40,000 or GHC265,200.00, for the charge of defrauding by false pretense.
Mr. George Antwi Boateng, a former football player, is the one who is complaining.
Tagoe has stated that he did not commit the crime.
Mr. Antwi Boateng, another former Ghanaian footballer, was living in Germany, according to Detective Chief Inspector Agartha Abena Asantewaa.
According to the Prosecutor, the accused, Tagoe, used to live in Germany. According to the Prosecutor, Tagoe was a player in Germany who was managed by the complainant, and when the two met in Ghana in 2020, the complainant told the accused person that he needed to buy a 4X4 Lexus.According to Detective Chief Inspector Asantewaa, the accused person agreed to import the vehicle for the complainant for USD40.000.00 USD, which is equivalent to (GHc265, 200).
The prosecution stated that USD40,000 was deposited into the accused person's bank account on January 8, 2021, and that the accused person called the complainant to confirm receipt of the funds.
The accused person then stated that they would give the car to the complainant on March 30, 2021, but they did not.According to the prosecution, Tagoe then called the person who filed the complaint and asked for two more weeks to return the car. The person who filed the complaint agreed.
The court heard that the two weeks had passed and the accused person had yet to bring the car into the country as promised.
According to the prosecution, the complainant went to Ghana on April 27, 2021, to pick up his car, but he did not receive it.When the complainant called the accused person to demand the car, the accused person stated that he couldn't import the car because the money had been used for important personal reasons.
