Patrice Evra, a Manchester United legend, has accused Bruno Fernandes of lying about Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of tonight's FA Cup clash with Everton. They were teammates at Old Trafford until recently, when Ronaldo left by mutual consent. Since then, the Red Devils have been on a roll, winning their last four matches since the World Cup in Qatar.
When Manchester United re-signed Ronaldo from Juventus in 2021, they imagined the dream duo of Ronaldo and Fernandes.
However, the pair never clicked at Old Trafford, and Portugal has had a similar experience at the international level.
Fernandes was previously asked about Ronaldo by Evra and insisted he wouldn't mind playing alongside the 37-year-old, who has since joined Al-Nassr."I don't want to talk about the past, but you can see that the team and Ten Hag are happy, all the negativity around the club with the Cristiano Ronaldo case and everything else, that's gone now," Evra told Betfair.
"All of a sudden, Ten Hag appears to be working without interruption."People talk a lot about how it affects Ten Hag, but I'm sure the players feel more liberated now that Ronaldo isn't looming over them.
"I always use Bruno Fernandes as an example; fans were criticizing him because he wasn't performing like he used to when he signed.
"This isn't a knock on Ronaldo, but Bruno Fernandes can only perform when he's the true boss."You can look at every game when he didn't play with Eriksen or Ronaldo and that's when we know it's the real Fernandes.
"I told him face to face after a game, he told me that wasn't the case and he can play with everyone, but I don't think that's true."There is only one conductor when you go to see an orchestra," I always say.
However, Evra believes that United's current forwards must step up in the aftermath of Ronaldo's departure.
Marcus Rashford has 12 goals in all competitions, while Anthony Martial has five and Antony has three.
"I think there are many players who are taking responsibility, and there are many players who are playing their best football," Evra said.
"It's positive, but I want them to play like they did against Tottenham, I want them to have more killer instinct and I want more goals."We can't just count on Rashford, he's playing amazing at the moment but we can't put too much pressure on him.
"I just want him to smile and be happy on the pitch, that's already a step forward, he doesn't need to score 20 or 30 goals because he's not a natural goal scorer, he's not a van Nistelrooy.
"That's why I think he should stay on the wing; he's effective there, and he's not a number nine."
Casemiro is one player Ronaldo has worked with at both Manchester United and Real Madrid.The Brazil international is currently the talk of Old Trafford, having thrived since his arrival in the summer. "Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford have been consistent, but I can't mention them before mentioning Casemiro," Evra said.
"Casemiro is the most important player for Manchester United right now. We wouldn't have won those three games if he hadn't been there.
"What he's doing is fantastic. I remember watching him in a game against Tottenham when he came in and tackled as a left back after assisting Fred and scoring again.
"Casemiro is United's most consistent player right now; if he gets injured, United suffers."
