Jürgen Klopp should make Cody Gakpo solution to Darwin Núñez problem after Liverpool transfer
Jürgen Klopp should consider making a risky decision this weekend that involves both Cody Gakpo after his transfer and Darwin Nez to address a lack of attacking options.
Liverpool completed a transfer that no one expected or could have predicted late last year.In the run-up to the new year, there was much speculation about Liverpool signing a midfielder rather than another attacker, but in the end, it was Cody Gakpo posing in a Liverpool shirt as a late Christmas present to the club's supporters, rather than Jude Bellingham or another of his positional peers.
Despite the persistent need to address Liverpool's midfield problem, Gakpo has had to wait a little longer than he would have liked to make his Liverpool debut. Ineligible against Brentford in Liverpool's first game of the season because his papers did not arrive on time, he will now be able to make his debut around two weeks after joining the club.Gakpo's chance to shine could come against Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday, but instead of playing the Dutchman in his preferred left wing role, Jürgen Klopp may choose to play him elsewhere.
With no sign of Roberto Firmino in first-team training in the run-up to the match, and Darwin Nez having played a lot of football recently while also coming under a lot of scrutiny, Liverpool are short on options to cover the central forward position.Gakpo hasn't seen much time in that role, but he was used as a forward for the Netherlands during the World Cup and seemed to thrive in it, scoring three goals.
Even at PSV, he was used up top on occasion, and while this may not be his best position, Klopp may have no choice due to a lack of other options. Klopp has a number of options, particularly on the left, including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, and Fábio Carvalho.
