Harry Kane tries not to think about becoming Tottenhams record-breaking scorer

Harry Kane insisted he was trying not to think about breaking Jimmy Greaves' record after scoring the only goal in Tottenham's 1-0 win over Portsmouth.

Kane's curled effort in the FA Cup third-round tie in the 50th minute brought him to 265 goals for Spurs, putting him within touching distance of Greaves' record, which has stood since 1970.

It enabled Antonio Conte's side to overcome a tenacious Pompey side, who sacked manager Danny Cowley on Monday following a poor run in Sky Bet League One."I try not to think about it," Kane said of Greaves' record.

"Sometimes you can overthink things. Obviously, I'm in good shape and fit. My mentality is to assist the team, and hopefully the goals will follow.

"It was a difficult game. People probably expected a higher score from us, but credit to them for staying compact and making it difficult.

"We thought after the first it might open up but they stopped us getting the second one. It's good to be done - that was the goal - and we'll see who we get next.Kane's goal was his 17th of the season and his fourth in four games since returning from the World Cup, where his missed penalty sent England out in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 defeat to France.
