Pep Guardiola provides Todd Boehly guidance while making a point about Lionel Messi.
Pep Guardiola has pushed Chelsea to continue with fired manager Graham Potter, saying he didn't need more time when he was in charge of Barcelona because of Lionel Messi.
During Sunday's FA Cup loss at Manchester City, Blues supporters chanted the names of Thomas Tuchel, Potter's predecessor, and Roman Abramovich, the club's former owner, sending a loud and clear message that they were unhappy with the situation being handled by owner Todd Boehly and their current manager.
Riyad Mahrez gave City the lead with a lovely free-kick, World Cup winner Julian Alvarez doubled their advantage from the spot, Phil Foden added a third goal before halftime, and Mahrez scored again from the penalty spot late to seal the victory.
Chelsea's league performance has suffered this season, too, with Potter's team sitting in 10th place in the Premier League and a staggering 19 points behind league leaders Arsenal. This is in addition to their domestic cup elimination. Additionally, they are 10 points off of the top four, and their chances of competing in the Champions League the following year seem to be dwindling.
Their humiliating loss on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium was their eighth loss in 10 games overall, including a disappointing draw at struggling Nottingham Forest in the league.
Prior to the game, Potter had made mention of Guardiola's early days at City, where he failed to win a trophy in his first year as manager. Pep joined Manchester City a year before they won anything, and Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp took some time, according to the Blues manager. Maybe for some reason it's different for me.
Despite a successful career, Potter has yet to win a major title as a manager. He appears unlikely to break that record this year, and Sunday's loss is sure to raise more questions about his future at Stamford Bridge.
