Carlos Alberto, who played under Jose Mourinho at Porto, has claimed that Roma's coach will become Brazil's coach and has already asked him to become his assistant
Mourinho has been linked with taking over Brazil as Tite's successor, with the former coach resigning after losing to Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar.
Several big names have been touted as Chite's replacement, including Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane, but Alberto says Mourinho is at the front of the line.
The Brazilian, who won the Champions League with Mourinho at Porto in 2004 and made five appearances in his home country, said he had already assembled his coaching staff for the big transfer.
"Let's be honest. Perhaps Mourinho will be Brazil's new manager. This is the news that I am reporting publicly," Alberto said on the Mundo GV ??podcast.
"He also asked me to work as his assistant."
It would not be a very popular decision given that Brazil hires foreign coaches very rarely, and Rivaldo's opposition to non-Brazilian coaches.
"Hiring a foreign coach for the national team shows a lack of respect for the Brazilian coach," said Rivaldo "We have a coach who can play against a Brazilian team and do a good job “Foreigners are definitely very good coaches, but Seleçăo is ours and must be led by someone with Brazilian blood.”
Mourinho is currently struggling to restore Roma to a spot in Europe's Serie A, sitting sixth in the table after drawing with AC Milan on Sunday
Already 13 points behind leaders Napoli, Roma are unlikely to challenge for the title, but they hope to return to the Champions League this season.
