We understand if you're tempted to dismiss Erling Haaland's historically-hot start to life as a Premier League striker.

Knowing the identity of the 2022 Golden Boot winner is somewhat tedious, with the only enigma being the final number of his final tally.

Haaland's Premier League-leading 21 goals in 15 games put him eight goals ahead of Tottenham's Harry Kane.

Manchester City returned from the World Cup break with Haaland still on pace for a Premier League record with two more goals against Leeds at Elland Road on Wednesday.

And the later this season progresses with him projected so far ahead of the current record, the less chucking is accompanied by marking out the pace (especially considering Haaland will not be beaten up by the World Cup, though he'd gladly trade the chance for Norway to be in the tournament).

Even though Haaland is currently outperforming his expected goal total, it's becoming clear that a Premier League record is not out of the question.Haaland isn't just scoring goals; he's also made an almost seamless transition to Pep Guardiola's system, creating opportunities for others in addition to his powerful self-positioning.

Given Man City's upcoming schedule, Haaland is unlikely to reach 50 goals, but the Premier League record is under threat, and that figure isn't entirely absurd.

With his 32 goals for Liverpool during the 2017-18 season, Mohamed Salah holds the 38-game season record, while Newcastle's Andy Cole and Blackburn's Alan Shearer both scored 34 during 42-game seasons in the twentieth century's final decade.Haaland could also break the record for most goal involvements (goals plus assists) in a single season, including the 42-game mark. Alan Shearer scored 47 goals in 42 games, while Thierry Henry set the 38-game record with 44.

Other records Haaland could legitimately tie or break include:

30 Premier League goals in his first season (Kevin Phillips, Sunderland, 1999-2000)

24 Premier League goals in 24 different matches (Salah, Liverpool, 2017-18)

The most goals scored in a Premier League match (Five tied with five)

11 consecutive Premier League games with a goal (Jamie Vardy, Leicester, 2014-15)
