Argentina defeated France in the World Cup final, which many consider to be the best of all time, on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 tie in which players like Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi cemented their places in history.
Nevertheless, despite Argentina's historic victory, Emiliano Martinez, who won the competition's Golden Glove awardactions ,'s tempered celebrations a little.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper's celebrations went viral across the globe as he made a crude gesture with the trophy while accepting it, shocking and repulsing many with his behavior.
Later, Martinez admitted that he made the gesture in reaction to French supporters.
"I did it because I got booed by the French.
Pride is ineffective with me,"
Martinez and Argentina both violate numerous provisions of the FIFA disciplinary code, according to a statement FIFA issued in response to his argument.
Argentina has "possibly violated" rules 11 (Offensive behavior and infringement of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of Players and Officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code as well as article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations.
These violations all occurred during and following the championship game, which saw Argentina win their third World Cup title and star player Lionel Messi eventually earn his first championship with his country.
Images of Martinez went viral after he was spotted holding a doll baby with Mbappe's face on it and called for a moment of silence for Mbappe's death in the changing room after the final.
These celebrations were witnessed live by four million happy Argentine fans and millions more across the world as things went little out of hand for the world champions.
The amount of violations for Argentina is enormous; they will almost surely be penalized by FIFA one way or another as the organization wants to take a strong position on harsh and disrespectful celebrations at their tournament.
