Chelsea signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk could have serious implications for Graham Potter’s squad as Todd Boehly is now willing to let a current forward leave, according to reports.

Following an eventful transfer saga involving both Chelsea and Arsenal, Mudryk’s transfer to Stamford Bridge was confirmed on Sunday. The deal is reportedly worth an initial €70million (£62m) but could rise to €100m (£89m) depending on add-ons.

Mudryk, who has signed a Chelsea contract lasting until summer 2031, was in attendance for the Blues’ game at the weekend. They beat fellow London side Crystal Palace 1-0 thanks to Kai Havertz’s 64th-minute goal.

When joining Chelsea, Mudryk said he is ‘so happy’ and called it a ‘huge club in a fantastic league’. The winger could make his debut when Chelsea come up against Liverpool on Saturday.

Chelsea fans will be excited about the new arrival and happy that they beat Arsenal to his capture. Some may have reservations about the massive fee that was paid. Although, Mudryk will do all he can to try and justify this.

Mudryk’s transfer looks like it will affect a current Chelsea star. According to Football InsiderChelsea will ‘listen to offers’ for Raheem Sterling during the January transfer window.

He only joined the club from Manchester City in July 2022, with the west London outfit paying a reported £47.5m. But the report states this will not stop chairman Todd Boehly from letting him leave.

No potential suitors are named yet. Plenty are likely to come forward though, given Sterling is a top Premier League performer and an experienced England international.

Raheem Sterling Chelsea spell to be cut short

While his time at Chelsea has not been blistering, he remains a serial winner from his time at City, while he still has the ability and pace to beat pretty much any Prem defender too.

It is clear to see how the Mudryk signing will impact Sterling. They both prefer to operate on the left wing, so Sterling is likely to spend more time on the bench now.

Admittedly, Sterling has played in a variety of positions this season, including on the right wing and as a second striker. But Chelsea have also strengthened their attacking options with the signings of Joao Felix and David Datro Fofana, giving Sterling even more competition for places.

When joining Chelsea, Sterling penned a long-term contract running until June 2027. This has the option of a further year, too. But things have changed since then and Sterling is now viewed as being expendable.

The 27-year-old last featured against his former club City on January 5. He managed the first five minutes before pulling up with a hamstring injury. He has missed Chelsea’s last two league matches, a 2-1 defeat to Fulham followed by the 1-0 victory over Palace.

According to The Athletic, Sterling will not be back to full fitness until mid February. Chelsea are aiming for the Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on February 15 as a reasonable return date.

But by the sounds of it, Boehly could offload Sterling before he gets the chance to play another game for the Blues.Raheem Sterling Chelsea spell to be cut short
