Is there thick air between real star Karim Benzema (35) and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo (37)?
Background:
Before the final of the Spanish Super Cup between Real and Barça (1:
3) Ronaldo attended the 'royal' training in Saudi Arabia, where his CR7, now under contract to Al-Nassr FC, poses alongside his former teammates.
But not with Benzema!
There has been speculation about a rift between the two superstars, which the French unequivocally denied at a press conference:
"We don't have to take a picture together to say we're friends. Photos are for Instagram and Twitter. This is another world. I don't need it "
And further:
"We were training and he was there. But he was also training so I didn't have time to say hello. I won't see him."
Still, he wants to do it again. He hopes Ronaldo will "keep scoring goals" and "make a difference" for his new club.
At Real, Benzema and Ronaldo have had some success, including winning the Champions League four times with him and the league title with him twice. Ronaldo bid farewell to Real Madrid in 2018 and has held positions at Juventus Turin and Manchester United. Now the Portuguese have landed at Al Nasr. There he needs to collect 200 million euros per season.
Meanwhile, Benzema's contract at Madrid expires at the end of the season. So far, the extension has been more formal. But now the French squad are hinting at a possible parting:
"I'm enjoying all the training. I don't know how long I'll be here, but I'm enjoying every day in Madrid."
