KOJO BONSU: CONTESTING MAHAMA FOR NDC FLAGBEARERSHIP SHOULD BE DEMOCRATIC RATHER THAN CONTENTIOUS.

Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), claims that he is challenging former president John Mahama for the position of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer because of respect for democracy.

Mr. Bonsu claims that running against the previous president is neither motivated by resentment nor a display of disdain.

"So democracy is the reason we are competing, not because we are trying to outdo anyone," someone said. Since he was one of the country's previous presidents, I must treat him with the utmost respect, even though it is not contentious or disrespectful.

The party's bylaws, he claimed, permit a change in the party's leadership every four years.

John Mahama achieved several initiatives for the party and the nation, but Mr. Bonsu insisted that did not exclude him from challenging the former president.

Democracy is the topic we are discussing. The reason is that the party is a democratic party and because we are required to run for office leadership positions every four years under party rules and regulations.

He claimed that democracy had made it possible for that to happen, not that he was competing with him because of how well or poorly he had performed.

The NDC flagbearer candidate claimed in an exclusive interview with Prime Morning that if elected, he will be more capable and effective than John Mahama.

He continued by saying that the previous president had a limited amount of time to change the country.

"There are many things I can accomplish better and more effectively on my own.

"He's one of the greatest Ghana has ever had, and he's done his best, but even if he comes and wins, he'll only serve for four years. You need a visionary leader who can serve for eight years. Four years is a pretty little period of time. Two years have passed by the time you create your cabinet and everything.

Therefore, you would need someone who can complete a new phase and has an eight-year term.

In response to a question about if he was upset that the former president chose someone else to be his running partner in 2020, the candidate responded, "No, it's life; you can't expect to get everything you want in this world.

There will be times in life when you will be disappointed and times when you will be excited, but I believe that when those times come, you just have to push forward, work hard, and accomplish everything you want to. He said, "You have to fight for it, you have to work hard, and you have to achieve everything."
