As Bournemouth's decline continued, Ivan Toney and Mathias Jensen propelled Brentford to ninth place in the Premier League.

The free-falling Cherries suffered their sixth straight loss since the World Cup as a result of Toney's first-half penalty and Jensen's late goal, all since Gary O'Neil was appointed their permanent manager.

The hosts won for the third time in a row in the Premier League, extending their winning streak to seven games and including triumphs over Manchester City and Liverpool.

Only defeats for West Ham and Everton kept Bournemouth out of the relegation zone, while Thomas Frank's tenacious team is currently ahead of Liverpool.

When Philip Billing delivered a cross for Kieffer Moore, Bournemouth, who had yet to score a Premier League goal since the start of the season, had a chance to take the lead. However, Moore's header struck the roof of the net instead.

Lewis Cook, who had been hurt in an earlier 50-50 challenge with Jensen, forced the visitors to make a change in the first half. Ben Pearson took his place after Cook gave up after trying in vain to continue.

The Bees seized the lead a short while later when Toney pursued a high ball from Yoane Wissa after missing two games due to a knee injury.

Defender Marcos Senesi wrestled the striker to the ground, giving referee Jarred Gillett what appeared to be a straightforward penalty decision.

The decision upheld even though VAR might have seen that Toney had in fact clung to the defender's arm as they approached the box. Toney, who still hasn't converted a penalty kick for Brentford, duly increased his perfect record to 21 conversions from 21 attempts.

It was the 26-year-sixth old's goal in his past five games and his sixth of the season, demonstrating once more how much Brentford will need him if the Football Association bans him for allegedly breaking betting laws. Toney, who had been under criticism for the gambling charges, rejoiced by cupping his ears in front of the Bournemouth supporters.

After the break, Brentford pressed forward with their offensive; Josh Dasilva's chip went over the crossbar, and Cherries goalkeeper Neto stopped Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo. Wissa then had a chance at the far post, but his effort missed the target by a wide margin.

The finest opportunity for Bournemouth to draw even came from substitute Siriki Dembele, who outran three defenders before firing a hard shot that David Raya was able to stop.

But as soon as the other end was broken up, the Bees scored an incredible victory thanks to Jensen's conversion of Dasilva's cross from the edge of the box.
