New vehicle thefts continue into the new year.

Car thieves struck the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan once more, continuing a worrying pattern of robberies at manufacturing plants in recent months. Ram appears to be one of the primary targets for car thieves, who will continue to break into manufacturing facilities.

A brand-new Ram 1500 TRX was stolen from Stellantis North America's Sterling Heights facility last year, as we reported in our previous article. Now it has occurred once more: The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant was the target of a group of thieves early on January 17, but this time the police were able to catch seven of the would-be car thieves quickly enough. Thieves attempted to steal approximately ten of the popular Ram 1500 pickup trucks from the plant, but their plans were quickly foiled. Detroit and the surrounding areas continue to be a problem for police, but after a string of car thefts in the area, it seems like police are finally getting the message. The Detroit News reports that several potential thieves broke into the facility around 4:45 in the morning on January 17. After members of the community in the area informed the authorities, the suspects were discovered, prompting police officers to rush to secure the area. The suspects, according to reports, attempted to steal multiple Ram 1500 trucks before fleeing. One person attempted to ram the exit gate, but they hit a patrol car instead. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries. Seven alleged thieves were successfully tracked down by Sterling Heights police officers during the attempted theft. It's not clear whether there were any other escapees. The fact that these individuals are able to repeatedly gain unauthorized access to these facilities raises a more pressing concern. It appears that these criminals have duplicate factory key fobs. Even though the thieves' keys are locked away in a secure room, this gives them access to start vehicles, which raises the possibility that insiders are assisting the thieves.

Recent car thefts have also targeted Ford's Flat Rock assembly plant in Detroit, Michigan, and the Chrysler Warren Truck Assembly Plant on Mound and 8 Mile. It is evident that significant enhancements to on-site security are required.
