Manchester United declined West Ham United's request to loan Harry Maguire.
Since Erik ten Hag's arrival in the summer, the United captain's playing time has been significantly reduced, leading to rumors of a transfer away from Old Trafford.
One of Ten Hag's more notable acquisitions was Lisandro Martinez, who has frequently been paired with Raphael Varane of France.
In recent weeks, Luke Shaw, who is primarily a left-back, has been chosen to start at the center of United's defense ahead of Maguire, fueling rumors that he is soon to be transferred on.
The Daily Mail said that United wants to keep hold of Maguire and has asserted that he won't quit the team.
West Ham, who is eager to add players to strengthen its roster and is now 18th in the Premier League standings.
According to reports, they made a bold attempt to sign Maguire on a temporary loan for the remainder of the campaign, but their proposal was promptly rejected.
Given that United are still involved in all four competitions, it is thought that Ten Hag would prefer to have Maguire at his disposal.
The England international has only made 15 appearances so far this season, seven of those as a starter.
In particular for last Saturday's derby victory over Manchester City, Ten Hag has previously stated why he chose Shaw over Maguire.
He said: “It was a big decision but when you analyse the profile of Haaland and the combination with De Bruyne it was right because Luke has the physical power to compete, the tactical view to make the right decision and technical skills.
“It matched really well but in other games he can contribute even more in wide positions, it’s a tactical choice.
“We can see from game to game. We have more players in our squad who have capacity to be multi-functional and we can use that as a weapon.”
