With a 2-1 victory at Swansea, Sam Bell's outstanding winner nine minutes from the end of extra time guaranteed Bristol City a spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The substitute for the Robins dribbled in from the left and blasted past goalkeeper Andy Fisher to end the contest and earn his team a home match against West Brom. It was Bell's first senior goal for the team at the age of 20.

Just past the hour mark, Mark Sykes scored his third goal in as many games to give Bristol City the lead against the odds with a cool finish following a deft move. However, Ollie Cooper, a Swans substitute, leveled the score just a few seconds later in the 73rd minute.

Following Bell's effort, Swansea made a strong effort to score a second equalizer, but Kyle Naughton's shot was just wide. Swansea needed seven minutes to create their first opportunity, which was a low shot by Olivier Ntcham from the edge of the box that Max O'Leary saved.

Joel Piroe appeared to have space inside the box after a deft Russell Martin move in the 18th minute, but the Dutch striker was unable to fire a shot before being surrounded.

When Bristol City defender Zac Vyner botched a clearance and nearly cut the ball past a surprised O'Leary, the Swans kept up the pressure and nearly took the lead.

As usual, the home team had the majority of the possession, but they had trouble creating clear-cut chances. The Robins' threat was even more ephemeral because they managed just one shot in the first half, making their four-goal outburst last Saturday against Birmingham a distant memory.

Early in the second half, the visitors displayed greater ambition, and when Antoine Semenyo collected a loose ball, he struck just wide of the near post.

As a result, Swansea came out fighting. Joel Latibeaudiere launched a rasping shot that O'Leary was forced to parry away, and Piroe then missed the target.

The Swans appeared to be moving closer to making the breakthrough, but O'Leary once more demonstrated his decisiveness by stopping a curling attempt from Cameron Congreve.

When it did, the visitors scored the opening goal when Sykes perfectly timed his run and slipped the ball under Fisher following a defense-splitting cross from replacement Bell. However, the advantage was only held for 11 minutes before Cooper's equalizer for the Swans.

For his sixth goal of the year, the midfielder was alert enough to poke the ball in from Matt Grimes' cross. The game went into extra time because neither team was able to score in the dying minutes.

Liam Cullen, a Swansea replacement, missed a six-yard header that would have given his team the lead in the opening frame.

The Swans subsequently applied pressure, and O'Leary deflected a shot from Liam Manning over the crossbar. Bristol City nearly won it in the second half, but Bell's late-game goal was just out of reach of Semenyo's cross.
