Despite being Manchester United's best player in the 2021/22 season, Cristiano Ronaldo's name was omitted from the 2023 FIFA team of the year. Remember that Ronaldo was left out of Erik Ten Hag's starting XI in the 2022/23 season, causing a schism between the player and the new manager. His contract was eventually terminated, and he joined Al Nassr following the FIFA World Cup.
However, there could be several reasons why Ronaldo, the new Al Nassr forward, did not make the 2023 FIFA team of the year. For starters, he did not win a single trophy in 2022, and his team did not even qualify for the Champions League in the 2021/22 season.
Another possible explanation is that Ronaldo was less productive in 2022 than Mbappe and Karim Benzema. Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, played as a striker in the 2021/22 season, and Benzema, who was named striker in the 2023 FIFA team of the year, won the Ballon D'or in 2022.
Benzema not only won the Ballon D'or, but also the Champions League, the European Golden Boot Award, La Liga, and other individual awards, whereas Ronaldo did not even win the Premier League Golden Boot Award. Based on Benzema's success in 2022, Ronaldo would never be chosen ahead of the French forward. What other factors do you believe contributed to Ronaldo's exclusion from the FIFA team of the year?
