Man Utd, Arsenal suffer major transfer blow as key target signs new contract

Youssoufa Moukoko has signed a new deal with Borussia Dortmund after leaving Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

According to Ben Jacobs, United have been following the 18-year-old forward for a long time and have been monitoring negotiations over a new contract with Dortmund.

Moukoko's current contract expires this summer, but the German club were keen to keep him one of their best young players to prevent him from going on a free transfer.

And the striker, who became Germany's youngest ever World Cup qualifier in November, had reportedly caught the attention of many of Europe's top his clubs, including Barcelona, ??Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The possibility of a possible transfer seems to have been boosted by comments from his agent speaking to Sky Germany last month (quoted via Liverpool Echo):

"I can confirm that I have no intention of extending my contract with Borussia Dortmund. "I can also say with certainty that the numbers circulating are simply not correct and Yousouffa has not received that many offers. However, we are still in contact with Dortmund and we will see what happens in the next few days."

Now the contact has ended with a positive conclusion for the German club.

Mukoko stays at Dortmund

Fabrizio Romano insisted on Saturday that Moukoko should sign a new contract at Dortmund, but that could happen as early as Saturday.

He tweeted:

"Please understand that today Yussoufa Moukoko will sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund. The deal is complete. Let's go." "Moukoko extends his contract until June 2026. There were many offers for top talent, but Moukoko loves BVB so much that he decided to stay despite the fake news about his salary. Soon. Formally"

There was confirmation on Saturday afternoon that Moukoko signed a new contract that runs until the summer of 2026.

The striker said (quoted by The Athletic):

"It's no secret that I feel good at BVB. I played when I was young, took my first steps in professional football here and am ready to take the next step with the club."

The striker, whose contract expired in the summer, was able to sign a provisional contract with another European club from 1 January. Instead, he will aim to reach 6 goals and 3 assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season, without putting any pressure on his future. United, Liverpool and Arsenal will have to explore targets for other strikers.
