Following student unrest that resulted in property destruction, the Krobea Asante Technical Vocational Institute has been shut down by the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service.
Since then, every pupil has left the building for their individual houses.
As a result, Simon Osei-Mensah, the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), declared that a five-person committee would be formed to investigate the events that gave rise to the protest at the institute last Sunday.
The Regional Minister issued a directive to all the school prefects of the Krobea Asante Technical Vocational Institute to submit themselves to the police or be proclaimed wanted after inspecting the school to determine the extent of the damage caused by the rioting students and speaking to the media.
Additionally, he requested that the prefects' parents make sure that their kids go to the police and reported themselves to help with the investigation or risk being detained.
He said that if the prefects had been unaware of the event, they would not have fled the campus.
The prefects' involvement in the demonstration last Sunday that resulted in the destruction of school property worth millions of Ghana cedis, according to Mr. Osei-Mensah, who is also the minister for the Ashanti region, is something that the police need to be aware of.
Damage
The regional minister was shocked by the extent of the destruction and declared that such impunity must not be condoned.
The kids damaged the school's infrastructure as well as the instructors and school are the own cars, as well as the food supplies intended for the children.
The District Directorate of Education denied that there had been any official communication to the district regarding the student's performance, despite claims that the students' actions were an expression of their resentment toward the school administration for the underwhelming results of their forerunners in the 2022 end-of-year exam.
meeting; detention
An urgent meeting with the school's administration, traditional elders, and other stakeholders to find a long-term solution to the development led to the Regional Minister's directive.
Police have detained more than 40 students who are now helping with investigations after being detained.
Those responsible for the disruptions will be handled for court after being examined.
Some of the former pupils who started the attack on the school are said to have participated in the protest.
cause of the protest
The Daily Graphic was informed by Mark Ofori, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, that the causes of the protests had not yet been established.
Investigations are underway, and when they are finished, "all stakeholders will be informed of the specifics on the reasons and their linked difficulties," the man stated.
