The Great Consolidated Popular Party's (GCPP) head, Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey, has claimed that the party is capable of improving the nation's socioeconomic situation.

Therefore, he has urged Ghanaians to cast a large number of votes for the party in the general election of 2024 for it to win and go on to implement its plans that would make the nation self-sufficient.

Dr. Lartey stated in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra that the GCPP had been promoting the values of self-sufficiency from its establishment over the years, and if it had been embraced by the populace, "we would not have been where we are now as a nation."

When allowed to serve the good people of Ghana in the elections of 2024, the GCPP is ready to rectify this scenario, according to Dr. Lartey.

The third force and the economy

"The GCPP is the Third Force in our political arena, thus we should have been in government by now, but throughout the years, the electorates have refused to provide us with that great chance."

The electorates will now see the necessity to give us their mandate in the next general election, according to Dr. Lartey, "given the falling fortunes of the economy caused by both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)."

Concerned about the slow rate of development since the Fourth Republic was established more than 30 years ago, Dr. Lartey claimed that if voters had been sincere with the GCPP and given their support to his party, Ghana would have achieved self-sufficiency by now and wouldn't have needed donor nations to fund its development.

"Ghanaians should not blame anyone for the current disaster they are going through," he lamented. "The present socio-economic problem was caused by Ghanaians for failing to vote the GCPP into office since the party was founded."

Reorganization

Regarding the future, Dr. Lartey stated that the GCPP has been putting all mechanisms in place at all levels, from the national to the zonal, to allow the party to start electing its leaders and kick-start the campaign for the 2024 elections.

Farmers/Youth

He said that, in contrast to the NPP and NDC, who consistently won elections by making several campaign promises, the GCPP will concentrate on farmers and the young to increase their ability for producing traditional and cash crops for both domestic consumption and exports.

He said, "If we can help farmers grow their operations and start exporting their goods to earn foreign cash, they can create jobs for the young people and lower the unemployment rate that has become a national canker.

Turning to the young, Dr. Lartey said they needed to understand that the GCPP will provide them a government ready to give them the chance to maximize their potential for both their personal benefit and the good of the country.
