Erik ten Hag responds to claims of a rift between struggling star Antony and his Manchester United teammates
Erik ten Hag has defended Anthony, denying his Manchester United teammates were unhappy with his performance.
Anthony joined Old Trafford from Ajax last summer after Eric ten Hag signed a £84m deal.
And after the winger scored in his first three games with the Red Devils, the money looked well spent.
However, he has not scored in the league since then and has yet to record an assist.
His performances for the Brazil international have come under scrutiny, and with Arsenal legend Ian Wright in the spotlight these days, some think it's time for Ten Hag to bench him, but United's The manager insists that this player is a member of the team and an important player. Speaking at United's press conference for the Carabao Cup semi-final clash with Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag said:
"If he plays, the team wins. That shows how well it works.
“I think he can do better and there is room for improvement. But like I said, teams play better when he's on the pitch. Crystal Palace v Manchester United - Premier League

"It's good and it's a good foundation to build on. I think he's improved already. He scored his three goals in his first three league games.
"Right now he's scoring goals against Everton and Charlton, so that's also an impact. But with his skill and talent, I think he can do a lot more. "But like I said, I think he made a good contribution to the team."
Ten Hag also addressed whether there was a rift between Anthony and his teammates after they were spotted having a heated exchange with Bruno Fernandes during Wednesday's game against Crystal Palace.
He said:
“I think it can happen. They are both players who put their hearts into it and when they play it, they do their best, so there is always a kind of balance.
"And there are always feelings that flare up between the players, but I think in the second moment we are already on good terms with each other, so it doesn't matter. I don't think the players are frustrated with him.
