The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, argues that his explanation for the reorganization of the party's parliamentary leadership is insufficient, according to the former majority leader, Cletus Avoka.
He thinks the justification for the change is terrible and that the move itself would just serve as a distraction from the actual issues, which are the wrongdoings of the NPP-led administration.
"Now that this has arrived, it will result in low morale in Parliament, some type of disaffection, and it's diversionary in any case.
"In the sense that they're going to deflect attention, social media, the media, away from the wrongdoings of the NPP so that we can mobilize the people behind us," And instead of discussing the wrongdoings of the NPP for the next week or two, they'll be talking about the crisis or dispute in the NDC. One of the main motivations for the reorganization, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, was to take advantage of the new leaders' skill sets in advance of the general elections in 2024.
He said that the economy, energy, and infrastructure will play a significant role in the 2024 general elections, which is why Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, an economist, Kofi Armah Baah, an energy expert, and Kwame Agbodza, an infrastructure expert were chosen.
It does not bode well for the party, according to Cletus Avoka, to just base the rearrangement on their skill sets at this important moment.
He contends that there was no need to force the three into party leadership because they were already making significant contributions to the party through their work on parliamentary committees.
"It's true that the elections in 2024 will be contested on a foundation of economics if we claim that Ato Forson has an economic background. He doesn't have to be the leader, though. He supports other lawmakers by serving as the Finance Committee's ranking member, and he has done so honorably. And not just today, but over the last six years as well.
Therefore, I don't believe that the last two years will allow our leader in parliament to be someone with economic experience, giving us sway. No. If that's the case, the presidential candidate needs to be an economist as well.
If you're going to make that case and offer a flagbearer, he must be an economist. And he can't possibly be needed.
He will require a minister of finance who is an economist and who can offer him advice, as well as an economic management staff. Therefore, I don't believe that Haruna Iddrisu's potential lack of economic background and Ato Forson's financial stability justifies changing him. That is not a compelling argument, he said.
