Daniel Kosi Ashiamah, a former member of parliament for the Oti Region's Buem Constituency, claims that the government's Free SHS policy is a contributing element in the current SHS protests.
After 40 pupils at the Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School in Effiduase Asokore, Sekeyere East District, Ashanti Region, were detained for acts of violence at the school, the former legislator made this statement.
After a number of demonstrations, the students destroyed public and private buildings, shut off the electricity to the school, and caused further mayhem.
Students broke into the principal of the school's apartment and assaulted him there as well. According to accounts, the youngsters' frustration was caused by their forebears' subpar results on their final exams.
Ebenezer Opoku, the district's assemblyman and coordinator for Free SHS, verified the event and said that a total of six automobiles were totaled by the kids, including two that were privately owned by instructors and four that belonged to the school.
The Ghana Education Service also issued sack letters to about eight pupils at the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region for disrespecting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
To overturn the GES ruling, the President has to intervene. Former NDC MP for Buem Daniel Kosi Ashiamah commented on the two incidents on Atinka TV's morning programme "Ghana Nie" alongside host Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwa, saying that the conduct of the pupils may be somewhat attributed to the free SHS.
Regarding this free SHS, the government has to have several discussions.
You should consider how much of an influence the free SHS will have while considering all of these possibilities. This is the reason why some of us are requesting a reassessment of the free SHS.
The government and GES should research the administrative side of this free SHS. They must ascertain how the professors are supervising and collaborating with the students.
