Assin State College received the prestigious "Inner Strength" Award from Arla Foods, the makers of Dano Milk, for making significant gains on the 2022 National Science and Math Quiz.
The Award will be given to Stephen Nyamekye, a contender at the NSMQ who represented the Assin State College, together with Dano Products worth GH7000, a trophy, and a GH10,000 scholarship fund.
To recognise the bravery and tenacity of one Less Endowed School that advances at least to the money zone of the NSMQ competition, the Dano Inner Strength Award project was established.
"At Dano, we want to provide the possibility to all the children across Ghana to have access to good and inexpensive nutrition that our Dano Milk delivers," said Arla's General Manager, Vytautas Petronis, who gave out the prize.
"Your team has exhibited the courage and resilience by taking-on the huge and well-established schools in the tournament," he said, expressing his enthusiasm over the Award. You have set an excellent example for us, demonstrating that everything is attainable with effort and tenacity over the course of many years. I implore you to continue challenging both your classmates and yourself, as well as yourself.
The financial award, the first of its type in the Inner Strength Awards, was introduced when the management of Arla Foods, in conjunction with the school's administration, chose to encourage the deserving but struggling student, according to Mr. Wilson Agbeko, marketing manager of Arla Foods Ghana Limited. We came to the conclusion that Stephen, although being smart, would not be able to continue his study beyond Assin State College if we did nothing, so we had to take action.
Assin State College was praised by Mr. Agbeko, who encouraged them to achieve better things.
Assin State College entered the NSMQ competition in 2017, but was eliminated for two years in a row, according to the school's headmaster, Mr. Ohene Nyarko.
However, in 2022, because to the dedication of both students and staff, the school achieved significant advancements by reaching the quarterfinal level.
He acknowledged the difficulties facing the institution and said that Assin State College will succeed to a larger extent with proper facilities and resources.
He used the chance to thank Arla Foods for the presentation they made to the school.
The ceremony's chairman, Nana Adaaquah Okumanini I of the Assin Traditional region, the district director of education, a district chief executive representative, the headmaster, instructors, and students from Assin State College were all in attendance.
