Mikel Arteta has been highly reluctant to go after Moises Caicedo but admits the Gunners can get more players
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will undergo an MRI at the weekend after being substituted through injury against Manchester City on Friday night.
Partey caught a rib in the first half of the Gunners' 1-0 FA Cup loss on Friday night at the Etihad Stadium and was substituted at half-time, replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Manager Mikel Arteta said Arsenal did not "want to take any chances" with Partey because he was so unwell he could not continue.
The Ghana international will now carry out scans at the weekend for the extent of the damage, with Arsenal hoping for the best.
"He felt something and we didn't want to take any chances, so he couldn't continue," said Arteta.
“He felt uncomfortable and it was getting worse, so he couldn't continue. He felt uncomfortable continuing.
"Obviously he needs to get an MRI tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and see what happens."
Arsenal is already looking to sign a midfielder before Tuesday night's transfer window closes ahead of Partey's possible injury as Mohamed Elneny is currently out with a knee problem.
The possibility of Partey also being injured only reinforces that need and Arsenal are in talks with Brighton over a deal for Moises Caicedo.
The Gunners have rejected an opening bid of £60m but talks continued over the weekend.
Caicedo is pushing for a move and has taken to social media about his desire to leave Brighton, but the club's public stance is that he will not be sold this month.
"You know I'm not going to comment on any player until nothing is done and I will continue like this," said Arteta.
Asked if Arsenal expected to be busy over the next few days, he said: "As I said before, we've been quite active in the market.
"We have some needs and if there is anything else the club is willing to try if it makes sense and hopefully this is a player that can improve our squad."
Partey's injury affected Arsenal against Man City, with Pep Guardiola struggling in midfield and Nathan Ake scoring the only goal of the game.
"Well at the moment we have Mo's injury which keeps him out of shape," said Arteta.
“Sambi came in and I think he did well too. It's true that Thomas is a big influence and a big personality and an important player in our team."
