Kobbie Mainoo completes 100 per cent of his passes in impressive cameo performance

It takes something really special for a 17-year-old to play for Manchester United. Kobbie Mainoo seems to have it.

The FA Youth Cup winner impressed coach Erik ten Hag enough to call him up to the first team, and he is now a regular on the team.

Against Reading, he only had his second game for the Reds and looked unimpressed.

Mainoo played 20 minutes in United's 3-1 win over Reading, with Casemiro (2) and Fred scoring. Manchester United v Reading:

Kobbie Mainoo vs Reading

Kobbie Mainoo is only 17 years old and still in the early stages of football development. What better way to learn than to play competitively under Erik ten Hag alongside the stars of Manchester United?

He did not appear to be out of place with a super-efficient performance in the victory against Reading.

Mainoo completed 100% of his passes, 25 out of 25. These include two assists in the final third. To do this, Mainoo needs great judgment and composure. Even though Reading were down to 10 men, they went ahead and won against United, scoring one goal.

Mainoo is unfazed, running his own game with the finesse one would expect from a more seasoned pro, masking his fear that he'll be nervous about the big stage.

It is not surprising. He is a young player who, like Alejandro Garnacho, thrived in last season's FA Youth Cup-winning squad, winning the final in front of 70,000 fans. He's used to it already.

The teenager also won the only tackle he played, winning two balls, completing all of this in 17 minutes on the field.

United need depth in midfield with Donny van de Beek injured, and Mainoo are showing they can help replace him. Like the match against Charlton he started, it was a test match.

Another test may be on the Premier League rivals midweek when United take on Nottingham Forest in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Mainoo had a chance to kick a few minutes, possibly from the bench, when United were leading 3-0.

Erik ten Hag would have liked what he saw from the boy. Keeping the ball is an important trait and Mainoo also has the ability to do more with the ball.
