A funny tweet made by a Nigerian lady has set social media into a comic state, i twitter user identified as @Naijasinglegirl narrates hoe she chose to chew 30 to 50 pieces of an expensive menthols game daily and her reason will shock you.
According to her, due to the expensive nature of the gum which she could not afford and only gets to taste them when she begs for it, she went on grocery shopping and came across 6 packs of the gum which expires soon and decided to purchase all. Due to this she decided to chew about 40-50 gum daily to finish it before the deadline.
Read thread below;
“Since Wednesday I have been chewing
between 40 - 50 pieces of gum daily.
Let me explain. I went to buy the ajekpako sachet
menthos at a random pharmacy last
Tuesday and it was selling for N500. selling for N500.
I did not buy!
“That same menthos I bought in Shoprite for
N130 a week earlier? More than 300%
increase! The way price increment happens in Nigeria surprises me. I went to Shoprite the following day to do grocery shopping and luckily I found it selling for N180 so I added two to my cart”.
“At least 50% increment is not that bad.
I was like if this semi useless menthos is
now selling for N180, that means the
N2500 ajebota menthos, the one that is
usually packaged in a plastic lid would be
selling for N4k now. Me, buy N4k gum? It can never be that serious”.
“Unfortunately that's the one my sister buys
so the only time I have an opportunity to
chew it when I do begi-begi.
Anyways I was rounding off my grocery
shopping when I passed by the soon-to-be-
expired section and saw the ajebota
menthos there with a price tag of N400
each”.
“Speak of the devil. I had to clear my eyes
again if it was N400 or N4000.
I quickly returned the sachet ones back to
the shelf and packed the discounted
ajebota ones, all 6 of them.
I'm a simple girl. I see 300% increase, I don't buy.
I see 85% discount, I buy everything”.
“I sha checked the expiry date and it was
slated for February 1st.
No problem.
I was already doing calculations.
6 packs means I have to chew 30 to 50
pieces everyday, and maybe 100 pieces
the day before the expiry date”.
“My teeth and I have waited all our lives for
this moment so we are equal to the task.
I bought my stuff and went home.
My default state since Wednesday is
chewing gum.
My mouth has been moving like a machine.
“I chew throughout the day, and whenever I
wake up at night in order to meet the
February 1st deadline”.
“Call it greed or whatever but I've been
quietly watching that menthos on
supermarket shelves act like it's one
premium product with it's price tag ($15 in
duty free stores sef) and I knew one day
God will bring it down to my level”.
