La Liga might decide not to renew Marcos Alonso's contract
Barcelona may encounter a significant obstacle while trying to register Marcos Alonso's extension with La Liga.
The 32-year-old, who left Premier League champions Chelsea for free last summer following a protracted absence, has contributed experience to the La Blaugrana team.
Prior to the 2022–23 season, Barcelona was only able to approve a 12-month deal for the La Roja international due to their continued financial difficulties.
Following weeks of discussions with his representation, the club announced this week that the veteran full back's contract will be extended by one year.
The scenario could, however, become even more challenging given La Liga's concerns about Barcelona's financial capacity for the transaction.
According to rumors from Diario Sport, signing Alonso to a new contract before the season is complete would push them over the league's pay cap.
Given that Ronald Araujo and Gavi are also awaiting the implementation of their new contracts at the Camp Nou, there will certainly be a delay until at least June.
