Frederick Opoku, the Secretary-General of the National Tenants Union of Ghana, praised the government for implementing the National Rental Assistance Scheme, which was a manifesto commitment. He added that the intervention will greatly relieve the burdensome rent payment advance for the organization's large number of members.
In his message of support at the National Rental Assistance Scheme's inauguration yesterday in Accra, Frederick Opoku said the government has shown it has heard the misery of its citizens, many of whom have residual income that does not allow them to pay rent in advance.
Frederick Opoku did issue a warning, stating that in order to guarantee that all qualified candidates would have an equal opportunity to profit, the application procedures for accessing the programme should be open, reasonable, and genuine.
The union's general secretary said that they would back any government initiatives to improve housing "humanely pleasant" and "guarantee that renters are provided the appropriate protection."
The National Rental Scheme is a significant government initiative that is being put into place to give poor-to-middle-income individuals a way to pay inexpensive monthly rent.
This substantially eliminates the necessity for rent advance payments and raises the standard of rental housing overall, particularly in metropolitan areas.
Six areas, namely Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Western, Bono East, and Northern Regions, would be covered by the Scheme's first deployment.
