Chelsea have completed the signing of World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £106.8m.

The 22-year-old Argentinian star has become the Premier League's most expensive player after arriving at Stamford Bridge at the end of his final day.

Here, PA news agency will take a look at some of the previous big-money signings.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa to Manchester City, £100m, August 2021)

The Premier League champions have chosen to further strengthen their squad with the acquisition of the striker from Villa, who has helped them keep the title but has so far failed to meet the price tag. Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan to Chelsea, £97.5m, August 2021)

Just a week after City broke the nine-figure mark for transfer fees, Chelsea have brought their former striker back to the club in an equally huge deal.

The Belgium international was supposed to be the last piece of Thomas Tuchel's squad but his first season was a huge disappointment. Tuchel was sacked earlier this season and Lukaku has returned to Inter on loan.

Paul Pogba (Juventus to Manchester United, £89m, August 2016)

Another reunion with an old club did not go as planned. Pogba's reputation as one of Europe's finest midfielders has not improved during his time at Old Trafford as he was frequently out on the field. The French international returns to Juventus on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Antony (Ajax to Manchester United, £80.6m, August 2022)

The Brazilian forward has shown excellence since his arrival last summer but so far he has not been worthy of his prize money at Old Trafford.

A season interrupted by the World Cup may offer an explanation, but one would expect more from the 22-year-old.

Harry Maguire (Leicester to Manchester United, £80m, August 2019)

United's acquisition of a Premier League-winning centre-back has provided much-needed strength to the defence.

However, things have not been easy for the England international, who was closely watched last season and was benched for most of this season. Romelu Lukaku (Everton to Manchester United, £75m, July 2017)

United paid large sums for Lukaku after the best season of his career at Goodison Park and although a return to 42 goals in 96 appearances was a reasonable return, it fell short of expectations and After a stellar start - more than a quarter of his goals came in his first two months - he turned sour.

Virgil van Dijk (Southampton to Liverpool, £75m, January 2018)

A failed transfer attempt meant Liverpool had to wait six months and pay an additional £10m, but even the higher fee is nowhere near the value he has brought to the team.

The Dutch captain has turned a good defense into a great one, despite recent problems, and he is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United, £73m, July 2021)

The 22-year-old's return to Manchester (albeit in a half-red shirt) did not go well. He hasn't been helped by a change of manager, an underperforming team and an inability to maintain a regular job in his first season, but new boss Erik ten Hag doesn't seem to be convinced either. dress. Nicolas Pepe (Lille to Arsenal, £72m, August 2019)

The then 24-year-old Ivory Coast winger joined the Gunners with a club record, surpassing the £55m spent on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January 2018. He had 111 appearances for the north London club, scoring 27 goals and winning.
