Thiago Silva has revealed he is looking to bring the 'special' Willian back to Chelsea towards the end of his Arsenal career.
Arsenal News, Exclusives & Analysis
Willian spent seven his seasons at Stamford at his bridge, making over 300 appearances for the Blues before moving to north London in 2020.
The Brazilian won his two Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea - the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup - but has struggled to find a foothold at Arsenal.
Willian was only at the Emirates for 12 months before agreeing to terminate his lucrative contract in order to force a move to his boyhood club, Corinthians.
After a brief stint in Brazil, the 34-year-old returned to his Premier League side at Fulham, scoring a goal against Chelsea in the Premier League last month. Ahead of Friday night's second leg, Chelsea defender Silva has praised his 'special' compatriot, revealing he tried to bring him back to Stamford Bridge while at Arsenal.
"Willian is special," Silva told ESPN Brazil. "I have a special love for this kid, both as a player and as someone off the pitch.
"I tried to get him back [to Chelsea] before he went to Corinthians, but unfortunately things didn't go and it didn't work out.
"I knew he was a very important player. In our first game (against Fulham) he scored a goal against us and made an important performance for Fulham.
"Hopefully he will calm down on Friday."
Willian has scored two goals and provided two assists in 14 Premier League appearances this season, helping Fulham to seventh place.
On Friday, Marco Silva's team will visit Chelsea, who are just 10th in the Premier League and 10 points behind him in the Champions League standings.
"Hopefully I can go out there tomorrow and get at least one point," Willian said ahead of the West London derby.
"But the most important thing is that we always play to win, whether at home or away. we want that "
