Casemiro was fired for putting his arm around Will Hughes' neck during a moment of madness
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been sent off for placing his hand on Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes' neck during a moment of madness.
The Reds took control of the game at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in each half.
Fernandes completed the first-half penalty after Hughes manipulating inside the box before Rashford scored his second with his 10th goal of the season.
United looked relaxed for the final 20 minutes before a major scuffle broke out off the pitch. Palace winger Jeffrey Schlupp pushed United star Antony into a billboard that every player was on. Schlupp received a penalty card from referee Andre Marriner as if it was over. That is until VAR kicks in.
VAR caught Casemiro with his arms around Hughes as they picked up bones from the encounter. Marriner watched the incident on the screen and ordered the 30-year-old man to march soon after.
This is not how Casemiro wants his first Premier League game after being suspended against Arsenal for receiving too many yellow cards. Casemiro will now miss the matches against Leeds United and a visit to Leicester City later this month. His next domestic game will be the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on February 26.
The red card of the Brazilian player changed the whole game. Palace equalized a minute later thanks to Schlupp's fine finish with his left foot.
United are currently weak in midfield due to injuries to Donny van de Beek, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay. They completed the signing of Marcel Sabitzer on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich on the last day of the transfer window. Sabitzer launches shortly after Casemiro descends the tunnel.
Earlier this week, manager Erik ten Hag raised concerns that his team could suffer burnout due to their packed schedule. United will play two games a week for the rest of this month due to commitments in the FA Cup, Europa League and Carabao Cup.
Ten Hag prefers a smaller roster and gave his reasoning in his pre-match press conference. I said:
"It's for every player - and Bruno plays every game. But these players have that ability and that's why they're so good.
You can always count on them as a club and that's why they have won so many trophies. When Casemiro was at Real Madrid, I also think he played a lot of games."

Sebastien Haller scores first goal after cancer recovery
Sebastien Haller scored his first goal since recovering from testicular cancer as Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg.
The former West Ham striker, who returned just three weeks ago, scored his third goal with a header in the 51st minute against Westfalenstadion's 'golden wall'.
Haller was diagnosed days after signing for Dortmund as Erling Haaland's replacement and needed two surgeries.
The 28-year-old underwent four rounds of chemotherapy and surgery in November.
“I have been waiting for this moment since day one. When I scored, it felt like the whole stadium was on fire," Haller told Sky Sports.
"I'm happy, but there's still a long way to go, so we'll keep going and hopefully get more goals."
Haller returned to the pitch on 22 January in a 4-3 home win over Augsburg, before making his first appearance for Dortmund against Bayer Leverkusen a week later.
Dortmund won against Freiburg, who were sent off by Kiliann Sidillia after 17 minutes.
Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi, Julian Brandt and Gio Reyna were on the scoresheet for Dortmund, along with Haller, as they rose to third in the Bundesliga, two points behind leaders Union Berlin.
