The devastation and tragedy in Turkey after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake within the south-central region near Gaziantep was unprecedented. Four days following the disaster thousands have lost their lives and still counting. It has also been confirmed that the technical director of Hatayaspor Taner Savut is lost under the rubble alongside Atsu. Reports concerning the Black Star winger Christian Atsu; the talented 31-year-old was unfortunate to be involved in the natural disaster that hit the European country.
Christian Atsu Twasam is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor and the Ghana national team. He is a winger from his early footballing career, although he has also been deployed as an attacking midfielder in his recent clubs. Atsu began his career with Porto, also spending a season on loan at Rio Ave. He has also spent short spells in the English Premier League for great teams like Chelsea, Newcastle United, Everton and Bournemouth.
Christian Atsu did undoubtedly play a huge part in the Black Stars 2006 and 2010 World Cup campaign. He has won the hearts of many Ghanaians and Africans throughout his playing career. Yet after several efforts currently being made to uncover the whereabouts of Atsu he has not yet been found. Search and rescue officials mistook his identity on the 7th of February claiming he had been found and was recovering in hospital to which was later clarified false reportage.
The twin sister of Christian Atsu has come forward to make comments concerning her brother's disappearance; " He (Prez. Akuffo-Addo) should come in the search of my twin brother because now where I am I don't know whether he's found or not because he can't be found in any hospital now," she pleaded (GhanaWeb online report extract). As death tolls rise higher every passing day it is the hope of many that the Ghanaian footballer will be found alive and well by the authorities as soon as possible.
