Despite Casemiro's recent success for Manchester United, Dwight Yorke claims he would choose Paul Scholes above him "any day of the week."The Brazilian midfielder has been nothing short of a revelation at Old Trafford since his £70 million transfer from Real Madrid last summer.
In fact, without the seasoned midfielder in their ranks, United appears vulnerable in the middle of the field, as evidenced by their lackluster 2-2 tie with Leeds on Wednesday, in which Casemiro was suspended.
The 30-year-old has recently contributed a wealth of expertise, calm under pressure, and a winning attitude to Erik ten Hag's initiative.
However, ex-United striker Yorke thinks Casemiro is not even close to Paul Scholes' caliber. During his four years at Old Trafford, Yorke, a former Trinidad and Tobago international, won three Premier League championships and a Champions League while playing alongside Scholes. He respects Casemiro's contribution since joining, but he dismisses comparisons to Scholes between the five-time Champions League champion and Casemiro.
"When you look at Casemiro's playing resume, he has accomplished everything. But does he produce as much as Paul Scholes? "No," Yorke replied to OLBG.
"Does he possess Scholesy's superior passing range? No. But he has assumed the position at Manchester United and has increased the team's vigor. Is what Casemiro is doing at the moment surprising given his impressive background? For me, no.
Even though Casemiro has recently performed well for Manchester United, he is not in the same league as Scholes. I would choose Scholes over Casemiro every day of the week. In the interview, Yorke added that United lack a role model that leads by example like Roy Keane.
Roy Keane is the guy Manchester United currently need in the lineup, according to the 51-year-old. "He would kick everybody. He would lift the bar and get everyone on the team going.
