Nigerian music director TG OMORI sparks conversations on Twitter after he revealed music director should at least take 10% royalties of the earnings of music videos they direct. And added that with this amount he can buy himself his private island and private jets he dreams of.
His post on his official Twitter handle reads;
In due time music video directors will be
getting atleast 10% royalties from the
streaming income of every music video
directed for their moral contribution to the
visuals. With this I can successfully buy my
dream island and private jets
followed by a thread asserting that the 10% hes talking about might even start from next week.
Due time fit be next week sha. Mafo.
These assertions seemed not right to some concerned fans and decided to share their own opinions in the comments. A few of such comments are highlighted below;
@Odogwu_ Nomso
Asake reportedly said you used $165k to shoot a music video? If thats real that meins they will pay you almost N150M to shoot video but you still want to collect Royalties? Might as well take the whole song.
@Bayopasta
It's crazy how the artists are worshipped
and not the video directors and the music
producers The bulk of the creative is
many times conceptualised by these two.
@Tee Classiquem1
So after they've empty their account to pay for the video shoot which i believe its an investment, they should also give you 10% percentage out of the streaming income? Why not just shoot the video for free and strike a deal of 50/50 on streaming income with the artiste.
TG omori is currently one of the best and biggest music directors out of Africa and has directed a whole lot of viral music videos and worked with top artists such as ROtimi, Burnaboy, Black sheriff, Ayra star, portable, Asake and others. He is rumored to be charging around $50k per video directing.
