Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was shown a red card during his side's Premier League win over Crystal Palace last weekend after putting his arm around Will Hughes' neck. And his three-match ban means he has received a penalty he hasn't received in nine seasons with Real Madrid.

Casemiro made 336 appearances for Real Madrid during his nine years at the Bernabeu and helped the club win five Champions League titles, three Club World Cups and three La Liga titles. But he moved to Old Trafford last summer after the Red Devils shelled out £70m for his signature. But he was banned from playing after his fight with Hughes was ruled violent. And he will not be selected until United's Europa League qualifying first leg against Barcelona after missing two games against Leeds and one against Leicester.

During his long stay at Madrid, Casemiro was sent off only twice. And on both occasions, he was ordered to leave after receiving two yellow cards, meaning he was given a one-match ban. The first time Casemiro was sent off for Real was after his second possible foul in the 1-4 La Liga loss to Real Valladolid in March 2019. The 30-year-old was subsequently sent off. in the final stages when Real beat Barcelona 2-1. in La Liga in 2021 after receiving two yellow cards in a span of two minutes.

Casemiro's absence became apparent on Wednesday night as United were held to a 2-2 Premier League draw by Leeds at Old Trafford, but following the encounter, Reds manager Erik ten Hag refused to blame for his star midfielder about this result.

"We have a great squad and whoever comes on we have to win this game with 11 or 15 players on the pitch," said the Dutchman.

Despite a poor start to the season, United have climbed to third in the top ten after winning 13 of their 22 matches. And they will look to beat Leeds on Sunday when the two sides go head to head for the second time in five days.
